Marathon & Half-Marathon
The Marathon de Bordeaux is a celebration of running and history in one of Europe's most alluring regions. The race takes place entirely at night within the city limits of Bordeaux, France. Runners of both the full and half courses start at at 800 pm), in front of The Palais de la Bourse, next to the Garonne river.
Second only to Paris, Bordeaux has the highest number of preserved historical buildings in France. It is also the world's major wine industry capital, having produced wine in the region since the 8th century. The historic part of the city is on the UNESCO World Heritage List as "an outstanding urban and architectural ensemble" of the 18th century. Bordeaux is also home to one of Europe's biggest 18th-century architectural urban areas, making it a sought-after destination for tourists and cinema production crews.
Both the full and half marathon courses are closed completely to traffic, and lead runners along the Garonne river, through the Bordeaux-Port de la Lune region, and over the Pont de Pierre Bridge. It traverses the sprawling vineyards and quaint neighborhoods of Pessac and St. Genès, and returns through the historic heart of the city, passing by places of rich heritage including the Placve de la Comédie, the Bassin à flots and the citée du vin. The finish line is located between the Place de la Bourse and the Miror d'Eau—the world's largest reflecting pool, covering 3,450 square meters.
Throughout the course, musical and cultural performances are organized along the aid stations to keep athletes and spectators energized through the night. Travel, run, and make memories at the 2018 Marathon de Bordeaux—the beauty is beckoning you.
Registered in the official calendar of the French Athletics Federation (FFA), the Marathon de Bordeaux Metropole offers three events:
- Marathon: register your name in the history of the first night marathon of France.
- The half marathon: the marathon distance seems even you too ambitious? Challenge Half Marathon in the heart of the largest architectural complex world heritage of UNESCO.
- The marathon relay: whatever your level of experience, share the emotion of a 4, 3 or 2 team race with your family, friends, colleagues.
AREAS OF DEPARTURE / ARRIVAL - TIME
both races will start at 8.00 on the Place de la Bourse (Quai du Maréchal Lyautey)
Start areas will be implemented for a starting runners in the best possible conditions. These SAS will be determined by the time you have stated during registration based on your opportunities and goals.
According to FFA regulations, the solid and liquid refreshment points will be installed every 5 km from KM 5 and at the finish. Water points (sponges station) will be located every 5 km also from KM 7.5.
